The event will take place at Pacifico Yokohama from Wednesday, November 20, to Friday, November 22, 2024. EdgeTech+ is a comprehensive exhibition organized by the Japan Embedded Systems Technology Association (JASA) with support from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the Digital Agency, and numerous public organizations, corporations, and associations. The event provides insights into edge computing and solutions that address social issues and infrastructure.
On the first day, Seiki Hara, Senior Director of Engineering at VicOne, will deliver a keynote titled “The Forefront of Next-Generation Automotive Cybersecurity: Latest Trends and VicOne’s Innovative Approach.” This presentation will cover the latest advancements in automotive cybersecurity and explore future industry trends.
Additionally, Akinobu Oda, Director of the Business Development Department at VicOne, will present at a thematic seminar during the Automotive Software Expo at EdgeTech+ on Thursday, November 21.
VicOne will also co-sponsor the Car Hacking Village at CODE BLUE 2024, an international conference featuring top information security experts. Asbtract:
The presentation will start with an overview of the latest trends in automotive cybersecurity, followed by insights from VicOne’s participation in Pwn2Own Automotive, highlighting recent attack methods and corresponding defense strategies. In light of Japan’s shortage of security professionals, we will share the outcomes and current status of security personnel training conducted at the Automotive CTF event, hosted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
Finally, as advancements in generative AI technology progress, we will address cybersecurity risks associated with AI integration in automobiles, discussing strategies for managing these risks and detailing VicOne’s approach to AI-driven solutions.

Speaker profile:
Seiki Hara joined Trend Micro in 2001, bringing prior experience from the corporate information systems department. Initially, he served as a pre-sales engineer, primarily supporting large corporations and public institutions. Alongside his responsibilities in promoting Trend Micro’s product offerings, he contributed to launching the company’s embedded personal product business for PCs and the new managed services for corporate clients.
In 2012, he shifted focus to security for control systems, developing new solutions, engaging with various control system security organizations, and delivering numerous external lectures to promote awareness in the field. By 2016, he expanded his expertise to encompass IoT security, where he played a vital role in advancing IoT-related security initiatives.
In 2022, he specialized in automotive security, leading a newly established department dedicated to this area. In 2024, he joined VicOne, Trend Micro’s automotive security subsidiary, as Senior Director of Engineering.

This presentation will address a significant challenge in the automotive industry: the shortage of cybersecurity professionals. We will discuss the current state, key challenges, and how companies and J-Auto-ISAC are working to address this critical issue.
As vehicles increasingly rely on software to enable core functionalities, the importance of robust cybersecurity measures grows accordingly. To spark greater interest in automotive cybersecurity and elevate security standards, VicOne collaborates with J-Auto-ISAC and other organizations to share its initiatives in this area.

Akinobu Oda began his career in the design and development of car navigation and audio systems at a Tier 1 automotive supplier. He later transitioned to an electronics trading company, where he gained experience in FAE and marketing. With the rise of IoT technology, he joined Trend Micro, focusing on business development and consulting. He currently works at VicOne, a Trend Micro subsidiary, where he leads efforts in automotive security business development and awareness expansion.
Car Hacking Village at CODE BLUE 2024 Event Overview
The Car Hacking Village at CODE BLUE 2024 will present diverse content on automotive cybersecurity and car hacking. This year’s Car Hacking Village will include workshops led by automotive security experts, sponsored exhibits from industry leaders in automotive cybersecurity, and an open testing area where participants can access automotive hardware targets and security testing tools. Automotive security experts will be available throughout the event.
